Paved Paradise And Put Up A Parking Lot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got till it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Shoo-bop-bop-bop-(Big Yellow Taxi) Amy Grant version ;)

If you are around me long enough there are a couple of songs that you will hear me reference regularly, like they are sort of a theme song of life for me. I am not a hippie, nor did I really know what this song was about when I first heard it on Amy Grant's cd many years ago, but to this day I reference it almost weekly. I use it in reference to do the opposite and be someone who knows what ive got BEFORE its gone. That is why I sing it. To remind myself that I have so many treasures in my life RIGHT NOW to enjoy and love that one day I will wish to have back. It keeps me positive and enjoying what I have now instead of always wanting to move to the next step in life. I wanna know what ive got before "they" put up a parking lot shoo-bop-bop-bop! And for the record, I hate camping and love parking lots, so this song is quite ironic for me. ;)

Another song I regularly reference and by reference I mean actually sing out loud is:

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These Are Some Good Times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this  (Trace Adkins "You're Gonna Miss This")

Same idea as the previous song. I use it in happy moments and in sad. In stressful times and in enjoyable times. Even when things are hard there is SOMETHING that is worth treasuring. It keeps me holding life dear where it is right now and when I catch myself dreaming forward too much I sing it out loud, smile, and sometimes tear up. I wanna know what ive got before its gone...and you know what? I believe God is giving me the grace to actually take a good look around and to know it now that i'm gonna miss this.

A major life theme song for me has been for as long as I can remember:
 I love you, Lord
And I lift my voice.
To worship You,
Oh my soul rejoice.
Take joy my king
In what you hear.
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound
in Your ear.
I sang it when I was happy and when I was sad. Particularly when I was scared of a thunderstorm or just wanted to praise Jesus in the night. My most vivid memories of first singing it were when I still homeschooled, so it had to be before second grade. I can honestly say I could hear God's voice even then and I am so grateful that I cannot remember a day without knowing Jesus. He was my comforter and he still is now. My Lord, my king, my friend. I want him to take delight in me and for my life to bring him joy and my praises to be a sweet sound to his ears.I sing this song to Samuel as part of his bedtime routine. This song is and always has been my theme.

In Christ Alone and Revelation Song are close seconds to my first theme song.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save

?Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory
Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From a life?s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Could ever pluck me from His hand
?Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I stand

I will stand, I will stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground, all other ground
Is sinking sand, is sinking sand
So I stand

Revelation Song
Worthy is the, Lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to him who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat
[2X]

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows, of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
to You the only wise King

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder
At the mention of your name
Jesus your name is power
Breath, and living water
Such a marvelous mystery
Yeah...

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You
[3X]

For some reason I couldnt sleep and this was on my mind. If my life were a movie, it would definitely have these songs in it. :)

Night Ya'll!
